Who is FF Williams?
Who is FF Williams, the illustrator of my new book?
Truth is, I don’t know. I have never met him. And perhaps it is better that way–it preserves the mystery.
Fred was recommended to me by my friend the graphic designer, Joseph Bradley Hill. I looked at his work on his now-defunct tumblr ‘Themanwhohasfailed’ as well as his website: http://www.crumpetmarmalade.net
The work covers a variety of media, mostly figurative, but I was struck by the peculiarity of his imagination, in particular, the curious, irreverent oils which resembled marginalia from medieval manuscripts. His skills with pen and pencil were undeniable.
I asked him how he would like to be described.
“Frederick Williams is an artist currently living in London. He makes drawings, paintings and films set in weird yet mundane worlds caught between the medieval and the post-modern, where magick holds more logic than science and mystical sorcerers divine the Truth of things.”
Mysterious. Intriguing. Arcane.
